• Prior to 1977 the NCO support channel was regarded as informal. However, a 20 December 1976 change to AR 600-20 formalized the NCO support channel and expanded its functions. The NCO support channel is now directive in nature within established policies and orders.

• To be effective, communication must be a two-way process. Your success as an NCO can be measured by how well you coordinate information between leaders and soldiers. How well you use the support channel could be reflected in the effectiveness of your unit.
